Learning Russian language
OUR METHODS OF TEACHING RUSSIAN AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Program's Methodology
Our Russian Language Courses are strongly influenced by the combined approach of language acquisition theories / modules outlined in the textbooks: "Practical Grammar Course" and "Communicative Language Teaching". In our classes the needs and interests of each individual learner is given highest importance rather than an 'abstract study of language itself'.
Our General Russian Courses are given at 5 major levels: Beginner's, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate.
Class is held from Monday through Friday consisting of 50-minute periods.
Student's Placement
A student's level is determined through placement testing. The placement test is made up of a writing sample and oral interview. At the end of testing, each student will be reviewed by the center and placed into the most appropriate course. If a student feels he or she has been placed incorrectly, the placement decision may be re-reviewed by the Centre.
Class Size
There are three types of class size.
- Maximum of 5 students for Speaking Practice, Conversation and Phonetics (the courses that require the most personalized interaction between teacher and student
- Maximum of 7 students for Reading, Writing, and Special Interest components (this provides more opportunities for independent work by student)
- "One on One" courses
Russian Language Course Components
GRAMMAR . This is the basic course which is organized so that students' practice with the language is paramount. The texts we normally use are filled with exercises that get students to use various structures in realistic situations.
CONVERSATION . The focus of Conversation is building fluency. In this class, students have an opportunity to talk about a variety of subjects relevant to their goals and interests, and learn a great deal of vocabulary while doing so.
READING & WRITING
Selected materials are chosen to ensure that the students can enrich their language level with important reading skills such as: skimming, scanning, identifying the main idea of the text, analyzing texts, and vocabulary building so that a student can become proficient in writing communication.
