Course Description.
This course will focus on the main challenges the political parties and their presidential candidates will be faced with in the forthcoming election campaign in Russia.
The course will consist of 12 lectures/seminars.The class will meet weekly.
1. The genesis of Russian mentality and culture including the development of the political system.
2. Political parties in Russia: historical roots and present day realities.
3. The political system of contemporary Russia – political parties and their social role.
4. The practice of lobbying in Russia.
5. State bureaucratic processes and the role of corruption.
6. Communication management, information warfare and political battles in Russia.
7. 2011 Parliamentary Elections: Political background
8. United Russia, Russia's largest party, in contemporary Russia: The program documents, social grassroots, methods of political struggle. The lecture and the meeting with the high top official of the party and the Russian students of PR and political communications .
9. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation before the 2011 elections.
10. The Just Russia and Liberal Democratic parties before the 2011 elections.
11. Lecture and the meeting with a top official from one of the parties currently not represented in the Russian parliament.
12. The future of Russia: A civil society or authoritarian rule
